Cricketers are one of the widely followed people in the country. India has been seeing some communal tensions in the past week. In the socio-politically sensitive situation that India is in, a very controversial Tweet was made by former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan. However, the context of the Tweet wasn’t mentioned, it was quite evident what Irfan was talking about the communal tensions. Irfan had written “My country, my beautiful country, has the potential to be the greatest country on earth. But…” This has led users to criticize Irfan for his comment on the country. A couple of hours later, Amit Mishra made a Tweet in response to the comment from Irfan Pathan.
Amit Mishra fires back at Irfan Pathan controversial Tweet
In Hubbali, Karnataka a Muslim mob attacked a temple and police station. This happened in response to a social media post made by a young boy. The post was allegedly ‘disrespecting Islam’. On the other hand, Hanuman Jayanti processions were attacked by Muslim mobs. Moreover, an anti-encroachment drive was undertaken by New Delhi Municipal Corporation in the Jahangirpuri area. The demolition is said to be targetting the Muslim community. As a result of the unrest, the Supreme Court has put a brake on the demolition drive. So the situation in the country is very sensitive.
Irfan Pathan’s Tweet didn’t make its context clear. However, the tone in which the comment is made in the current scenario, it looks to be politically charged.
Hours after Pathan’s Tweet, Amit Mishra wrote something in a similar format. However, he didn’t leave the comment incomplete. Amit Mishra laid emphasis on the fact that the Constitution is the supreme law of the country. Moreover, this comment looked slyly targetting a certain group of people who believes a particular religious book as supreme. However, nothing is over the Indian Constitution.
Although Mishra had not replied to Irfan directly, neither had he quoted his Tweet. But it is very clear that Mishra is giving his response to Pathan’s tweet that has gone viral.
As the former cricketers had this disguised war on the micro-blogging site. Fans have taken sides. Irfan is a part of the IPL 2022 commentary panel. The situation should not escalate any further. Otherwise, it would add to the existing socio-political tensions in some regions of the country.
