Kolkata Knight Riders broke their bank for Shreyas Iyer at the IPL mega auction 2022. After a five-way bidding war, Shreyas Iyer was sold to KKR for 12.25 crores. Needless to say, Shreyas will be seen leading KKR for the upcoming seasons. The former DC captain was expected to fetch a huge sum at the auction after he wasn’t retained by his former franchise.
Shreyas Iyer Sold To KKR For 12.25 Crores
Royal Challengers Bangalore started the proceedings as they placed the first bid for Iyer. Capitals initiated the first bidding war and RCB were forced to pull themselves back after Iyer’s price shot up to 4.20 Crores. RPSG owned Lucknow SuperGiants joined the race for Iyer after RCB stepped back. At 6.75 crores, KKR entered the ring and removed LSG from the equation. Gujarat Titans eventually replaced DC from the race at 10 crores. After a fierce bidding war between GT and KKR, Iyer was sold to KKR for 12.25 crores. Whopping 12.25 crores!

Shreyas Iyer led DC to their first-ever IPL final in 2020. However, he got himself injured during the ODI series against England in March 2021 which ruled him out of IPL 2021. Subsequently, Rishabh Pant was appointed DC’s captain for IPL 2021. Iyer returned from injury for the second half of IPL but he wasn’t retained by DC for IPL 2022. Iyer is a great leader and with many teams hunting for a captain, he was expected to go expensive.
Apart from Shreyas Iyer, KKR bought Pat Cummins for a massive 7.25 crores. These were the only two buys for KKR from the marquee set. They have a good bunch of players as of now and they will be eyeing more crucial players for their team.
