Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant in one team could help India win World Test Championship: Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag wants Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant in Indian Test team.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag believes having both Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh in the playing XI will make India a powerhouse in Test cricket. He also went on to say that Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw could help India win World Test Championship.

Former Indian cricketer also said that team India can rule in Test cricket if Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant play together in the Indian Test team.

“He (Prithvi Shaw) is a player who can bring back the excitement in Test cricket. Opposition will have to think if 400 would be enough with Shaw and Pant in our ranks. Shaw and Pant in one team could help India rule Test cricket, win World Test Championship,”

Virender Sehwag said.

Both Shaw and Pant are still very young in their respective Test careers. Shaw has played five Test matches, the last of which was the infamous Adelaide Test against Australia.

“Pant will be more successful as opener in limited-overs cricket’: Sehwag

Sehwag also believes that Rishabh Pant should open in limited-overs cricket. Sehwag feels the opening position might just bring the best version of Rishabh Pant.

“We don’t play limited-overs to score 50 or 100 but to score at a brisk pace, no matter the situation or the opposition,” points Sehwag, “At no. 4 or 5, he will find himself in situations that demand greater responsibility, but if he opens, he will be far more successful.”

Pant used to play as an opening batter for India’s Under-19 team back in the 2016 World Cup. He has delivered some remarkable performances as an opener in the past in the IPL as well. Amidst all this, Pant hasn’t been consistent since the time he gets to play in the middle-order in limited-overs cricket.
