ICC World Test Championship: Where does India stand in the table after whitewashing Sri Lanka at home?

The recently concluded India vs Sri Lanka test series might have been a one-sided affair but it held enormous importance from the Indian team’s perspective. After conceding the series 1-2 in South Africa, it was important for India to get back to winning ways as early as possible. The draw against NZ in Kanpur last year, too, holds a chance to prove fatal for the ICT. Thus, beating Sri Lanka 2-0 was way too necessary for the Indian team as it seems. So, let us have a look at the updated points table of the ICC World Test Championship after India’s series win over SL.

The poor pitches prepared for the series between Australia and Pakistan have helped the Aussies in strengthening their position in the points table. Australia have now retained the top spot after the two teams played another draw in the ongoing 3-match series. As of now, Australia have earned 71.42 percent of the points they’ve competed for and Pakistan have secured 61.11 percent of them.

A clean sweep against Sri Lanka lifted India to the fourth position in the points table. India have grabbed 58.33 percent of the points and they are the only team that has played four series. Their next assignment in the whites will be against England in July. After the one-off test match in England, the Rohit Sharma-led team will play a couple of tests in Bangladesh. After the T20 World Cup in Australia, India will play their last test series of this cycle of the WTC. Pat Cummins and his boys will tour India for a four-match test series which will decide India’s fate in the championship.
