Sports and Jersey numbers go hand in hand. But some athletes play their sport so well that people associate that number with them. In football, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham associated Number 7 with themselves so well that it would be immensely difficult for anyone to relate someone else with that number. In Cricket, we can say the same for MS Dhoni. Captain Cool made his debut back in 2007 with his long blonde hair and Number 7 jersey. Ever since then, the number 7 has become synonymous with Dhoni. After years of giving some timeless memories to cricket fans, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter has finally revealed at an event, the reason why he chose to wear the iconic number 7 jersey throughout his playing career and continues to do so.

Dhoni’s Love for Number 7
In a recent virtual event organised by the parent organisation of CSK’s owners, India Cements, Dhoni revealed why he chose to wear the number 7 jersey while ruling out the possibility of strong superstition behind the same. He only loves the number 7 due to a simple reason.
“A lot of people initially thought that 7 is a lucky number for me and all of that. But I chose the number for a very simple reason. I was born on the 7th of July. So it’s the 7th day of the 7th month, that was the reason,”
stated the legendary wicket-keeper batsman
He further continued,
“Rather than getting to all the different things as to what a number is a good number and all, I thought I will use my date of birth as the number. Then whenever people kept asking me, I kept adding to the answer. 81 was the year, 8-1 is again 7, 7 is a very neutral number. People actually kept telling me, I started absorbing it and I started telling it to others in the same way.”
Concluding his statement Dhoni said
“A lot of people said 7 is a neutral number, and even if it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t really go against you. That also I added to my answer. I am not very superstitious about it, but it’s one number that is close to my heart, and I have kept it over the years with me,”
Dawning the legendary number once again, MS will be seen in action as his men take on Iyer’s Knights. Will the defending champions be able to reiterate last year’s season finale’s performance or will the Knights breach the Fortress of the Super Kings this time? The battle begins on March 26 as the CSK take on the KKR in Wankhede.
