Mithali Raj Officially Announces Retirement From International Cricket 

Mithali Raj played her last match before the announcement of the retirement in the 2022 ICC Women's ODI World Cup, where she was the captain of the team.

The iconic cricketer and former captain of the Indian Women’s Team, Mithali Raj has officially retired from all forms of international cricket. She played for the Indian team since she was a 16-year-old girl. Thus, for 23 years, she continued to contribute to the country through her skills and brilliant gameplay. She was not only a great cricketer with the bat but also a sensible leader. Not to mention, Mithali Raj is till now, the only Indian skipper to have led the country’s team in the World Cup finals twice. No other male or female Indian captain has managed to do that, so far. 

Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday and shared a post on her Instagram handle. She thanked all of the supporters and fans who have been a constant strength in her 23 years of a career as a cricketer. Have a look at the update here:

She played her last match in the Indian Jersey before the announcement of her retirement as a captain in the 2022 ICC Women’s ODI World-Cup. India had great journey throughout the tournament by winning most of the matches. However, South Africa defeated the Indian Women’s team and as a result, they were eliminated. 

Mithali, however, already retired from the T20I format of the game in the year 2019 itself. As a matter of fact, even after all these years of retirement, she is still at the top when it comes to scoring runs in T20Is for India. She has many records and achievements to herself, many of which are not yet broken. Mithali Raj also holds the record of being the only female cricketer to cross 7000 runs in ODIs.
