Martin Guptill becomes the highest run scorer in T20 International, breaks Rohit Sharma’s record

New Zealand batter Martin Guptill overtook Rohit Sharma to become the highest run scorer in T20 International. When in Kingston’s Sabina Park against the West Indies, he scored 15 runs. After his brief Sunday night innings, New Zealander’s total runs currently stands at 3,497.

Interestingly, after scoring 64 in the first T20I against the same opposition in July. Rohit overtook Guptill as the top run scorer. When India competes in the Asia Cup later this month, Rohit (3,487) and Virat Kohli (3,308), who are now in third place, will have the opportunity to overtake them.

In the match, a 102-run opening wicket stand between Brandon Kings and Shamarh Brook helped West Indies. The Hosts beat New Zealand by eight wickets in the third T20I. The win prevented a clean sweep of the three-match series.

West Indies wins the match

The hosts successfully chased down the mark with an over remaining after New Zealand elected to bat first but could only muster 145 for 7. Stand-in skipper Rovman Powell smashed Jimmy Neesham for six to seal the victory and make the series 2-1 in New Zealand’s favour.

The West Indies’ choice to field two spinners was crucial since New Zealand found it tough to get around Akeal Hosein and Hayden Walsh, with pacer Odean Smith providing the necessary support. The three-match ODI series that begins on Wednesday will now be their focus, according to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, who claimed that his team was outplayed on the day.
