LSG captain KL Rahul fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct

Lucknow Super Giants has had a great start in their inaugural IPL season.

Match 31st of the IPL 2022 was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai last night. Lucknow Super Giants had a target of 182 to chase. Looking at the form the team is in, it didn’t seem a very difficult task for them. However, RCB outplayed LSG. RCB won the contest by 18 runs. Pacer Josh Hazelwood picked 4 important wickets for his team. However, the loss wasn’t the only bad event for the LSG skipper Rahul. Following the match, IPL’s official website released a statement mentioning KL Rahul has been fined 20% of his match fee. Although the exact reason was not stated it is known that the fine is for breaching the IPL ‘Code of Conduct’. in addition, Marcus Stoinis of KL Rahul’s team was also reprimanded for the breach.

Batting first Royal Challengers Bangalore had put 181 runs on board. Despite losing two early wickets, Faf du Plessis’s outstanding 96-off 64 has been crucial for the team. Moreover, cameos from Maxwell, Shahbaz, and DK have helped the team put a competitive total. Two important wickets in the powerplay have helped RCB in a strong position. Captain Rahul was hitting well (30) before he was caught by Karthik. Although, LSG’s wickets kept falling, Krunal Pandya, Ayush Badoni, and Marcus Stoinis still kept them alive in the game. As the important wickets fell, RCB won the match by 18 runs.

LSG captain KL Rahul fined 20% of match fees

An official release from the IPL stated that KL Rahul has been charged 20% of his match fee. Moreover, it stated a Level 1 breach of ‘Code of Conduct’ has led to the match fee deduction. However, the reason was not stated. KL Rahul has recently smashed his 3rd IPL hundred on his 100th IPL game.

“Lucknow Super Giants captain, KL Rahul has been fined 20 percent of his match fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Mr. Rahul admitted to the Level 1 offense of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.”

In addition, LSG’s Marcus Stoinis was also reprimanded for breaching the IPL ‘Code of Conduct’. Marcus has been involved in some argument with the on-field umpire. In Hazelwood’s over a delivery was way out of the tramline, Stoinis wanted the umpire to declare it a wide. However, on the very next delivery, he was bowled. Upon this, Stoinis was evidently frustrated and was believed to be heard using abusive language.

“Marcus Stoinis from Lucknow Super Giants has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Mr. Stoinis admitted to the Level 1 offense of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
