The former Indian skipper, Sunil Gavaskar lavishes huge praise on Umran Malik. The young sensational bowler created headlines with his rapid-speed bowling techniques. He was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in IPL 2022 and this was his maiden season. Although, SRH couldn’t win the IPL trophy, Umran on the other hand, attracted praises for his performance from all over the world. He also ended up getting the award for ‘Emerging Player of the Season’ in this year’s Indian Premier League.
Sunil Gavaskar Lavishes Huge Praise On Umran Malik :
Talking about his brilliant performance, the ‘Little Master’ of Indian cricket has also been quite impressed with the prodigy. As a matter of fact, he even said that Umran Malik is only the second Indian player, he’s excited to see performing after Sachin Tendulkar. “The last time I got really excited at seeing an Indian player was Sachin Tendulkar. And after that I‘m excited to see Umran Malik.”
Gavaskar also feels that the 3rd T20I against South Africa should be the right time for Umran Malik to finally perform for the country. Malik was selected in the squad of the T20I series against South Africa. However, he has not yet been played. “I do believe he should play. But again, they might say that let us win the third one and get ourselves in a situation, and then maybe they can think about experimenting.”
The former Indian skipper also said that the squad will be picked for the World Cup very soon and therefore they need a wicket-taker, like Umran himself. “Arshdeep and Umran, you want to see them play at some point in the series. You’re looking to pick the squad for the World Cup in October. So, I think they need an opportunity. They need a wicket-taking bowler and Umran Malik is a wicket-taker….. we know that.”
