MS Dhoni will be leading Chennai Super Kings for the last time this season. The captain, who led CSK to four IPL titles, is expected to bid adieu after this year’s IPL. There were speculations that he might not feature in this year’s IPL but all of them were put to an end after the team’s retentions were announced. CSK announced four retentions for this year’s IPL. In this article, we look at CSK retained players list for IPL 2022.
As mentioned earlier, CSK has retained four players from their last year’s pool. The team will now enter the auction with a purse of 48 crores.
CSK retained players list 2022: name, price, captain, and more
1) Ravindra Jadeja (16 Crores)
India’s best all-rounder currently, Jadeja, saw a major hike in his IPL fees for this season. CSK decided to retain the all-rounder’s services for a massive 16 crores. Surprisingly, he was retained over MS Dhoni. This seems to be an indication that he might be the player to take over the reins from Dhoni in the future. The gun fielder from Saurashtra has been an integral part of CSK ever since the year 2012. Though he has never led an IPL franchise, it will be interesting to learn what’s cooking up in Mahi’s head regarding CSK’s future.

2) Mahendra Singh Dhoni (12 Crores)
The captain of the ship, MS Dhoni, was retained for a massive 12 crores by the Super Kings management. As he stated after the last edition of IPL, he would love to play his last match in front of the crowd at Chepauk. But, unfortunately, this dream of Mahi might not be fulfilled as the IPL is expected to be played at a neutral venue this year. However, his ultimate goal would be to defend the title for CSK yet again.
3) Moeen Ali (8 Crores)
Moeen Ali was CSK’s latest addition after the last year’s auction. To be retained at the mega auction just after his first season with the franchise is commendable for any player. This also shows how much faith the CSK management has in its player. Moeen, who recently led England against the West Indies in the T20I series, has been in a really good form of late. The all-rounder is expected to bat number 3 for CSK and bowl some handy overs of off-spin.
4) Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 Crores)
Ruturaj’s retention was nothing less than the biggest steal ever at the IPL retentions. The Maharashtrian, who has been in a sublime form since the last year’s IPL, would have easily fetched more than 6 Crores at the auction. His retention indicates a lot about the team culture that CSK has built over all these years. The orange cap winner from last season will be eager to give his heart and soul for Chennai this season.
This was the CSK retained players list for 2022, but it did have some notable names missing Chennai Super Kings have groomed an excellent talent over the years. But the mega auction norms didn’t allow them to retain a major chunk of their pool. Players like Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur might not return to the CSK after the mega auction. Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Suresh Raina, and Ambati Rayudu are the veterans who might have played their last season with the CSK.
