At the stumps of the first day, Chandimal and night-watchman Prabath Jayasuriya were unbeaten on 18 and 12. Dhananjaya de Silva and Sadeera Samarawickrama are yet to come. If they set a big total then it might be hard for Ireland to come back on this turning and bouncing pitch of Galle. Earlier, Sri Lanka skipper Karunaratne won the toss and elected to bat first. And this is the first time Ireland is playing more than one test match in a series. Also, both teams are playing the first test against each other.
