SL vs IRE 1st Test Day 2 Report – Prabath Jayasuriya Five Wickets Pushed Irish on Back Foot

The fifer of Prabath Jayasuriya devastated Ireland’s batting order. Before the second day stumps, Ireland scored 117 at the downfall of seven wickets. Before Jayasurya’s five wickets haul, Dinesh Chandimal and Sadeera hit unbeaten centuries. Lets see how Day 2 of the SL vs IRE Test unfolded.

SL vs IRE: Day 2 Report

Sri Lanka declared their first innings on a mammoth 591-6. Left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando, playing his first Test, dismissed Murray Commins for a golden duck and captain Andy Balbirnie in just the second over of the Ireland innings.

Harry Tector (34) and James McCollum (35) put together a 70-run partnership before left-arm orthodox spinner Jayasuriya bowled a double wicket maiden, claiming Tector and Curtis Campher.

In his next over, Jayasuriya cleaned up top scorer McCollum on 35. Jayasuriya, next trapped, was Peter Moor and completed his fifth five-wicket haul with George Dockrell wicket.

Ireland still needs another 274 to avoid the follow-on. Lorcan Tucker was batting on 21 with Andy McBrine alongside him on five before the end of 2 day in Galle.

The wicketkeeper-batsman Samarawickrama celebrated his return to Test cricket with a maiden hundred after last featuring in a Test in 2017. He scored 104 runs off 114 balls and smashed 11 fours. And his unbeaten 104 was the highest score by a Sri Lankan for number eight.

Chandimal remains unbeaten alongside him on 102 at the declaration, posting his 14th Test ton against tired Irish bowlers. The pair added an unbroken 183 runs for the seventh wicket.
