SL vs IRE: 2nd Test Day 4 – Ireland Trail by 158 Runs After Sri Lanka Declared on 704

Double centuries from Nishan Madushka and Kusal Mendis followed by Angelo Mathews’s 15th test hundred helped Sri Lanka take a big lead against Ireland in Galle on day four. Sri Lanka made their seventh-highest test total of 700 and more on day four against the Irish. Let’s see how the 4th day of the second SL vs IRE test unfolded.

SL vs IRE: Day 4 Report

Again, It was a torrid day for Ireland on the field. Irish bowlers only took two wickets while bowling 71 overs. Resuming on 357/1 after rain forced early stumps on day 3, Madushka and Mendis made a strong 268-run partnership. Madushka converted his maiden Test ton to a double along with Mendis’s first test double hundred.

Madushka scored 205 off 339 with 22 fours and 1 six. And Mendis scored 245 off 291 including 18 fours and 11 sixes. Andy Mcbrine trapped Madhushka in front before the second new ball was due. After that Mathews and Mendis joined hands and made a partnership of 133 in just 150 balls.Graham Hume dismissed Mendis and the wicket fell at a score of 629.

Angelo Mathews hit his 15th test hundred and scored an unbeaten 100 with 6 fours and 4 fours. Dinesh Chandimal gets retired hurt on 13 due to a shoulder injury while Dharanjaya de Silva scored 12*. And Sri Lanka declared their inning on 704/3.

By stumps, Ireland had scored 54 on the loss of two wickets. James MacCollum was bowled out by Ramesh Mendis and Peter Moor was caught by Mathews on Jayasurya’s delivery. Skipper Andy Balbarnie and Harry Tector were unbeaten on 18 and 7 respectively. On day five, If Ramesh Mendis and Dharanjaya along with Jaysuraya duets show their magic then Sri Lanka would win the test.
