Denmark National Team has released its kit for the FIFA World Cup sending a strong message ahead of the main event in Qatar. Kit sponsor Hummel has announced via Social Media that the new Danish jerseys are both a tribute to the historic Denmark team of Euro ’92 as well as a mark of protest against Qatar and its human rights record.
Denmark has released both its kits through social media, one in traditional Red and the other in Black. Although it was mainly presumed that the kits were primarily inspired by the success of Denmark in Euro ’92, it appears that the kits had a hidden message as well.
In what was a couple of Instagram posts, the kit sponsors through their official Instagram announced the following:
“With the Danish national team’s new jerseys, we wanted to send a dual message. They are not only inspired by Euro 92, paying tribute to Denmark’s greatest football success, but also a protest against Qatar and its human rights record. That’s why we’ve toned down all the details for Denmark’s new World Cup jerseys, including our logo and iconic chevrons. We don’t wish to be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives. We support the Danish national team all the way, but that isn’t the same as supporting Qatar as a host nation.
We believe that sport should bring people together. And when it doesn’t, we want to make a statement.”
The above statement was in reference to their Red Colored Kit. A different statement was attached in reference to the Black kit. The statement said the following:
“Black ⚫ The colour of mourning. The perfect colour for Denmark’s third shirt for this year’s World Cup. While we support the Danish national team all the way, this shouldn’t be confused with support for a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives. We wish to make a statement about Qatar’s human rights record and its treatment of the migrant workers that have built the country’s World Cup stadiums.”

Eric Cantona critical of David Beckham and his association with Qatar
Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has pulled no punches against his former teammate David Beckham regarding the latter’s association and promotion of the Qatar World Cup.
In an interview with the Athletic, Eric Cantona said he would not accept an offer to endorse Qatar or the World Cup and believes those who are being paid are making a “big, big mistake”.
“I would not do it at all,” Cantona said.
“I do completely the opposite. In January 2022, I started to say that. Maybe I was the first one. But I am free to do it. And of course, an ex-player paid to do this kind of thing…It could be they don’t know what has happened there. Or, if they know it, I think they did wrong. I think they made a big mistake. A big, big mistake.”
