“Virat Kohli tries to dominate because of ego and pride but is overdoing it”: Misbah-ul-Haq goes hard on Kohli

The former Pakistani batter said Kohli at times overdoes his aggression, trying to dominate the bowlers.

Virat Kohli‘s struggle with form in the last couple of years has been one of the biggest talking points. Kohli’s search for his 71st international century since November 2019 is on. In due course Cricket analysts and former players are again out with their guns blazing at Kohli ahead of the India-England fixture. Deliveries outside the line of off-stump have always troubled Kohli but of late, things have become worse. Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq believes that it is this very thing which is preventing Kohli from achieving new heights.

“Virat Kohli looks to chase outside-off deliveries a lot and has been dismissed in that manner multiple times. We can see the technical issues, but the reason why he is doing that is because of mental issues.”

Kohli should give away aggressive play and switch to defence believes Misbah

While Kohli is a naturally attacking batter, Misbah holds a different opinion. Former Pakistan skipper believes He could be more successful in this next phase of his career if he allows himself to play a little more conservatively. After all, hitting boundaries isn’t the only way to score runs. Referring to the first four Tests in England, last summer Misbah cited the example of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. These two batters showed how letting your natural game take the backseat can prove to be fruitful.

The former Pakistani batter said Kohli at times overdoes his aggression, trying to dominate the bowlers.

“He is trying to dominate the bowlers as there’s an ego and pride. But somewhere he is overdoing it. He is playing more and more and the pressure is mounting on him.”

Kohli, however, looked in good touch in the warm-up game against Leicestershire. He scored a fluent fifty in the second innings. Interestingly, Kohli has shown flashes of being in good touch in patches over the last few years. But he has not succeeded to notch up to the three digit mark expected from him. But King Kohli fans are hopeful for the tides to turn and witness the much-awaited 71st century in the England test.
