The Golden boy, Neeraj Chopra breaks his own national record with an 89.30 meters throw in Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland. The javelin sensation surpassed his 88.07m national record throw on Tuesday by almost achieving the 90m mark. The stunning throw earned him a silver medal. The 90 meters mark is considered a gold standard in the javelin world. Moreover, this was the first outing for the 24-year-old after the Tokyo Olympics last year. On August 7 2021 Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win a medal in athletics. Moreover, he was only the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win an individual Olympic Gold for India.
Chopra started with an impressive 86.92m. It was in his second attempt that Neeraj threw the spear in personal and national record-breaking 89.30m. The next three attempts were foul and in the last attempt, Neeraj threw the spear to 85.85m. He will next participate in Kourtane Games which will take place in Finland as well. Later, he will be a part of the Stockholm leg of the Diamonds League on June 30.
Oliver Helander, the 25-year-old javelin thrower from Finland won the Gold Medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games with an 89.83m throw.

Recently, Neeraj has opened up that he will not pressurize himself to clear the 90-m mark. But rather he will focus on gradually getting better. He is focused to build up gradually to peak during World Championships. The World Championship will take place in Eugene, the USA from 15 to 24th July.
