Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins had played some matches for KKR. Although his performances were not consistently good, he scored the joint-fastest IPL fifty against Mumbai Indians. On Friday, Cricket Australia released a statement mentioning Pat Cummins being ruled out of the IPL 2022 due to a hip injury. However, there hasn’t been an official announcement of the same from Kolkata Knight Riders. Since Kolkata Knight Riders have only outside chances of qualifying for the playoffs, Pat Cummins return home to recover from the niggle. Reports also state that KKR will not be replacing him for the remainder of the matches.
Cricket Australia further states that it would take only a fortnight for Pat to recover from the injury. Therefore, it must not be a serious one. Playing 5 matches, he could only be effective with the bat against MI, where he smashed 56* off 14. Whereas he picked 7 wickets in the 5 contests. Being an important player for Australia in all three formats, it’ll be good for him to give some rest to the body to recover before Australia embarks on a hectic 18-month-long cricketing calendar.
Pat Cummins ruled out due to hip injury
Pat Cummins smashed the joint-fastest fifty in 14 balls against Mumbai Indians in 14th Match. This led the team to an easy win by 5 wickets.
“Pat Cummins has left the Indian Premier League with a minor hip injury, but the Test captain appears on track to be able to handle an intense period of cricket over the coming months. It is understood the Kolkata Knight Riders’ A$1.34m signing, who looked to have recaptured his best T20 form this week, is heading back to Sydney to rest the injury. Cummins had been managing the niggle through the IPL but, with Kolkata only an outside chance of making the playoffs, he will complete his rehabilitation at home before flying out for the ODI and Test legs of next month’s Sri Lanka tour.“
