On Wednesday the ICC Test rankings were updated. And Ravindra Jadeja was named the No 1 Test all-rounder in the ICC Test ranking. Jason Holder has held this position for more than a year now. This didn’t come as a shock to anybody. For a couple of years, Jadeja is widely referred to as the best all-rounder for the Indian team by cricket fans and veterans. Jadeja brings a balance to the Indian team with his all-around contributions. Recently, Jadeja scored an unbeaten 175 against Sri Lanka. Moreover, he also took a 5-wicket-haul in the same innings. For scoring 175* and picking 9 wickets in the match. Ravindra Jadeja catapulted to the first rank in ICC Test ranking for an all-rounder. The innings, not only took him up on the ranking ladder but also help him set some records in Indian cricket.
The brilliant performance against Sri Lanka helped him rank 1st as an all-rounder in test cricket. In addition, he moved up places in bowling and batting as well, ranking 17th and 37th respectively. This is not the first time ‘Sir Jadeja’ has achieved the feat. In 2017, he held the spot for a week. The West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has been sticking to the spot since February 2021. However, Jaddu’s excellent knock displaced holder.
Ravindra Jadeja No 1 All-rounder in Test
Scoring 175* and taking a 5-wicket-haul in the same innings, Jadeja became the first Indian to do that, batting at number 7. Jaddu now holds the record for the highest score by an Indian batter at number 7. He surpassed Kapil Dev’s decades-old record. In addition, he also became the first player batting at 7 or below to be involved in three 100+ partnerships. Ravindra is only the 3rd Indan to score 150+ batting at 7. Earlier, Kapil Dev and Rishabh Pant have achieved this feat. Not just his batting, but the 9-wickets he picked in both the Sri Lankan innings, helped him reach the top of the ICC Ranking. Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja has scored 2 Test tons.

Had the Indian team not declared the innings, a double-century didn’t look very difficult. However, he himself suggested the captain take the decision since the Sri Lankan players were looking tired from fielding. This decision went well for India, and they won the match on the 3rd day without having to bat again. Later, Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged as the Player of the match. His brilliance is not just limited to Test cricket. But, he is an integral part of the Indian side in all the formats. Jadeja has represented India in 58 Tests, 168 ODIs, and 58 T20Is, scoring 2370, 2411, and 326 runs and picking 241, 188, and 48 wickets respectively.
While Virat Kohli who played his 100th Test against Sri Lanka now ranks 5. Earlier, Virat ranked 7th, but now he moved up 2 places (5th) in ICC Test Batsmen rankings. He is the highest-ranked Indian batter on the list with 763 ratings. Rishabh pant also moved his way up on the ICC Rankings.
