This week’s edition of SmackDown already had a star-studded line-up and pay per view worthy matches scheduled. In addition to all of this, WWE fans were caught off-guard with the return of Charlotte Flair.
The Queen Charlotte Flair Seized Her Opportunity
Ronda Rousey was set to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Raquel Rodriguez. Rodriguez was out for vengeance after being ambushed for weeks by the duo of Ronda Rousey and Shana Baszler. It was uncertain if Rodriguez was at a hundred percent after her arm was left injured after a backstage attack was orchestrated by Rousey and Baszler in previous weeks. Rousey unsurprisingly attacked Rodriguez’s arm throughout the match.
The competitors shared a fast-paced match but just as Rodriguez turned the tide and started to gain momentum after a brilliant vertical suplex, the numbers game soured Rodriguez’s chance at her maiden title victory. Interference from Baszler allowed Rousey to capitalize and pick up the victory via submission after applying the armbar on Rodriguez.
Ronda Rousey probably thought her job for the night was complete after successfully retaining the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Celebrations were cut short by a returning Charlotte Flair. Flair was last seen at WrestleMania Backlash where Rousey took her out of action after volatile attacks on her arm. A confrontation soon ensued, and the returning Flair challenged Rousey to a championship match that very moment. Rousey accepted.

A Short-lived Match To Become a 14x World Champion
After the bell was rung, the wrestlers wasted no time. Within a span of a few minutes, Flair was setting Rousey up for the spear. Rousey countered this and tried to turn it into an armbar. Flair unexpectedly rolled up Rousey for a quick rollup to pick up the victory. Flair succeeded at retribution and became a 14-time World Champion and 7-time SmackDown Women’s Champion.
