Kana Reignites The Spark Within Asuka

The 2024 Royal Rumble didn’t have many surprises for the men and women’s editions. The Women’s Royal Rumble notably saw the grand returns of Nia Jax, Michelle McCool and debut of Chelsea Green and Piper Niven character of Doudrop. But the surprise that won everyone’s heart was the debut of the alter ego of Asuka – Kana.

Kana, the volatile and eerie alter ego of Asuka was extremely popular in the Land of the Rising Sun and in the wrestling world. This character had not been seen in the WWE prior to this. Fans have called for the debut of Kana for years and is vastly popular among hardcore wrestling fans. Additionally, few feel that Asuka’s character was becoming stale and the debut of Kana injects life and unpredictability to her character. To simplify matters, Kana is to Asuka what ‘The Demon’ is to Finn Balor. WWE commentators Corey Graves and Michael Cole termed Kana as ‘feared’ and ‘twisted’.

Elated fans took to social media to celebrate the debut of Kana.

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ was the winner of the inaugural edition of the women’s Royal Rumble in 2018. In the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble, Asuka entered as #17 and received a huge pop as she slowly took off her mask to reveal her Kana face-paint. During the course of the match, she ended up using her iconic green mist on Liv Morgan. Kana made it to the final two of the women’s Royal Rumble. Eventually, it was The Judgement Day’s Rhea Ripley edging past Kana to win the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble.

Ripley has now earned herself a guaranteed title opportunity at WrestleMania 39.
