Roman Reigns addresses ‘potential’ WrestleMania ‘Dream Match’ against The Rock

The Undisputed WWE Champion addressed the possibility of him facing his ‘bloodline’, The Rock during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Roman Reigns Highlights The Fitness Factor

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns was asked about a potential match between him and The Rock on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon was left bewildered by Reigns’ answer when he cited the recent Wrestling Observer report suggesting that The Rock feels that he won’t be ready in time for WrestleMania 39. As The Rock’s often posts weightlifting, nutritional and workout videos, Fallon exclaimed, “That guy’s ready for anything!” Here’s what Reigns had to say.

There’s been rumours and a huge buzz on that for a long time now. For years, now. But it’s really picked up in the last couple of years. I believe he just came out with a statement saying that he’s not gonna be ready in time, which, that’s the face that everyone’s making. ‘Hold on, he trains every single day. He’s huge.’ But to his defense, it’s one thing to train with weights and the bodybuilding to look the part.

Reigns stressed on how ‘match fitness’ is vastly different from weight training. “But to be able to get in the ring and do a main event match, a championship match, an Undisputed WWE Championship match, it takes a lot of conditioning, it beats up your body, so there’s more that goes into it than just training in the weight room. It’s a professional athlete type of situation, where you have to condition. He does two out of the three things perfectly. His nutrition and his weight training’s on point, but you have to condition yourself. You gotta be ready to fall down. You never get away from that,” Reigns added.

The Rock ‘Passed The Torch’ To Reigns in 2015

Although unlikely, it would be a poetic storyline if The Rock returned to the WWE to challenge the self-proclaimed ‘Tribal Chief’. Especially, as it was The Rock who returned at the end of the 2015 Royal Rumble to help Roman Reigns clean house and win the event to go on to headline his first WrestleMania. It was seen as an unofficial passing of the torch ceremony as the WWE was sculpting Reigns as the next big ‘Face of the WWE’.

Furthermore, there is added potential since Reigns considers himself as the ‘Head of The Table’ of the Anoa’i family, that doesn’t necessarily mean that The Rock ‘acknowledges’ Reigns. The Rock versus Reigns has been a speculated dream match for millions. Reigns himself has been a public advocate for the match to take place at WrestleMania 39.

Who Will Be The Second Opponent For Reigns?

After Cody Rhodes’ triumphant win at The 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble, we can presume that the main event of one night of WrestleMania 39 has been locked in. It is left to see which one of the titles Rhodes challenges for but Reigns versus Rhodes is definitely headlining one of the two WrestleMania nights.

It is left to see who the WWE goes with to be Reigns’ opponent for Night 2 of WrestleMania 39. Fan-favouite Sami Zayn is a potential candidate after his implosion with The Bloodline. But recent reports stated that WWE authorities don’t view him as a potential ‘Face’ of the company. Additionally, it seems more and more unlikely that The Rock will return to make the dream match encounter with Roman Reigns possible.
