Dominic Thiem vs Tommy Paul Prediction, Head-to-Head, Preview and Live Stream- Vienna Open 2022

In the opening round of the 2022 Erste Bank Open, Dominic Thiem, the winner of the 2020 US Open, will face Tommy Paul.

Thiem prematurely ended his 2021 season due to a wrist injury. At a Challenger event in March of this year, he made a comeback but was defeated in the opening round. After that, he kept getting better and advanced to the Swiss Open semifinals, the Kitzbuhel Open quarterfinals, and the Swedish Open semifinals. Both the Tel Aviv Open and the Moselle Open saw him leave in the second round. He later advanced to the Gijon Open semifinals but fell to Andrey Rublev. He won his opening matches in the European Open last week over Francisco Cerundolo and Michael Geerts. Prior to falling to Sebastian Korda in the semifinals, he saved three match points to defeat Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals.

The current season of Tommy Paul’s career is his best one to date. At Wimbledon, he made his first appearance in the fourth round of a Major. He progressed to the third round of the US Open. He has so far made it no further than the quarterfinals nine times outside of the Majors. At the Delray Beach Open, he had just one semifinal appearance. Last month, the American attained a career-high position of No. 28. At the Stockholm Open last week, he was the defending champion but fell to Mikael Ymer in the second round.

Thiem vs Paul Prediction

For the Austrian, everything seems to be coming together. Paul, meantime, has come in Vienna after making a poor title defence in Stockholm. He will be striving for a better performance here after his relatively easy loss to Ymer. It would be intriguing to watch if Thiem’s forehand holds up in the crosscourt rallies because the American’s forehand is also a strong stroke. The former US Open winner appears to be playing better right now and, if he keeps playing at his current level, should be able to easily defeat Paul.

Prediction: Thiem to win in straight sets
