Report: FBI questioned Brett Favre concerning Mississippi welfare money

Bud Holmes, Brett Favre’s attorney, claims that FBI questioned Brett Favre. Questioning was in connection with a Mississippi welfare fraud issue that has dogged him for more than two years.

FBI questioned Brett Favre: Money received from Mississippi governor?

According to the Associated Press, Favre is alleged to have received $1.1 million from former Mississippi governor Phil Bryant. This was in 2017 and 2018 for motivational talks, appearances at promotional events, and radio interviews.

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programme, which aims to help individuals in need financially, awarded the state $70 million from the federal government.

The Mississippi Community Education Center and Family Resource Center of North Mississippi received the funds. A Mississippi auditor who stated this in March 2020. Instead, it went to those who didn’t need it, like Favre, who earned millions of dollars while playing in the NFL.

FBI questioned Brett Favre: Others Involved

Former WWE wrestler Ted DiBiase Jr., who was required to reimburse $3.9 million he reportedly received for speaking at motivational events, former college football star Marcus Dupree, and fitness instructor Paul LaCoste each received a portion of the funds.

According to NBC News, Dupree and LaCoste received a total salary of $670,000. Also, The University of Southern Mississippi received an additional $5 million for the construction of a volleyball facility. According to the state auditor (through the Associated Press), the misappropriation of funds is the “biggest public corruption case in the past two decades” in Mississippi.

FBI questioned Brett Favre: Favre says he was Unaware

Favre was mandated to pay back $228,000 in interest on top of the welfare money he allegedly received for activities he failed to show up for. Although he has returned the $1.1 million, the interest has not been paid.

Favre has stated that he was unaware that the money he received came from welfare payments and that he is not indicted on any criminal charges. Furthermore, he has denied receiving payment for events he didn’t attend.
