Ricky Ponting holds the record for the best win percentage as a captain in the ODI World Cup at 89.65%. The legendary cricketer who captained the Australian side in three different World Cups.

Collectively, in all three World Cups, he captained the side for a total of 29 matches and only lost two matches. He won 26 matches captaining the side and also led Australia to win the ODI World Cup twice under his captaincy. One of the 29 matches was washed out due to rain; otherwise, his winning percentage would have crossed more than 90 percent.

2. Brendon McCullum: 88.88%

The second-highest win percentage as a captain is 88.88% by the Kiwi captain, Brendon McCullum. He was the captain of the team in the 2015 ODI World Cup and lost the only match in the finals against Australia. He was on an eight-match winning streak but sadly lost in the finals.

If he had won the finals, he would have become the only captain on the list with a 100% win record in ODI World Cup matches.

3. Clive Lloyd: 88.23%

The third captain on the list is the legendary cricketer Clive Lloyd, with an 88.23 percentage. The West Indies cricketer captained the team in three different World Cups and only lost two matches. He won the ODI World Cup two consecutive times and was on the verge of lifting the trophy three times. But they lost the 1983 ODI World Cup finals against India, which resulted in the percentage going down to 88.23 percent.

4. Mahendra Singh Dhoni: 82.35%

Captain Cool, MS Dhoni, comes in fourth on the list with a win percentage of 82.35 percent. He captained the Indian side for two World Cups and lost only two matches during his captaincy.

He won the 2011 ODI World Cup along with his Indian teammates and played in the semi-finals of the 2015 ODI World Cup. Sadly, they couldn’t defeat Australia in the semi-finals, which was his second loss in the ODI World Cup, and his first came during the 2011 ODI World Cup. One match under his captaincy was tied against England in the 2011 ODI World Cup.

5. Saurav Ganguly: 81.81%

The next best win percentage in the ODI World Cup is 81.81 percent by Sourav Ganguly. He was the captain of the Indian cricket team during the 2003 ODI World Cup and captained the team in a total of 11 matches.
