Didier Deschamps’ contract with the French Football Federation (FFF) was extended for another three years on Saturday.
Deschamps will direct France’s effort at the 2024 Euro Cup with the prospect of leading the squad for the third straight World Cup in the Americas in 2026. He led France to the 2018 World Cup victory and a runner-up finish in 2022.
Deschamps, 54, insisted on continuing in command until the following World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Despite reports that the French Football Federation (FFF) head Noel Le Graet only planned to give him a two-year extension until the 2024 European Championship.

The FFF’s Noel Le Graet has expressed his desire for Deschamps to continue leading France’s national team.
At the FFF general assembly, Deschamps stated, “I am going to reveal something which for me is an incredible pleasure. And that is that the president has chosen to prolong (my contract) until 2026.”
Deschamps stated, “I thank the president for his ongoing encouragement and faith in me. The France squad must perform well in order to win”.
Deschamps, who succeeded Laurent Blanc as France’s head coach in 2012. He led France to a second-place finish at the 2016 Euro. Before leading France to its second World Cup triumph in 20 years in Russia in 2018.
By doing this, he joined Mario Zagallo and Franz Beckenbauer as the only captains (after Beckenbauer) to have won the World Cup both as a player and a manager.
France made it to the Ultimate game during the Qatar World Cup 2022 tournament, which was overshadowed by the Karim Benzema controversy and illness. After the tournament in Qatar, Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Madrid manager, was apparently in line to succeed in Deschamps. But the announcement puts an end to their hopes. Although it’s unclear where Zidane will end up next, he is sure to have no shortage of suitors as he gets ready to return to management.
