Didier Deschamps will be France’s coach until the 2026 World Cup

Didier Deschamps’ contract with the French Football Federation (FFF) was extended for another three years on Saturday.

The FFF’s Noel Le Graet has expressed his desire for Deschamps to continue leading France’s national team.

At the FFF general assembly, Deschamps stated, “I am going to reveal something which for me is an incredible pleasure. And that is that the president has chosen to prolong (my contract) until 2026.”

Deschamps stated, “I thank the president for his ongoing encouragement and faith in me. The France squad must perform well in order to win”.

Deschamps, who succeeded Laurent Blanc as France’s head coach in 2012. He led France to a second-place finish at the 2016 Euro. Before leading France to its second World Cup triumph in 20 years in Russia in 2018.

By doing this, he joined Mario Zagallo and Franz Beckenbauer as the only captains (after Beckenbauer) to have won the World Cup both as a player and a manager.
