FIFA World Cup 2022: Oliver Giroud is a ‘major doubt’ ahead of France’s clash against Argentina in the World Cup final

France has been plagued with injuries before and throughout the World Cup and now another concern has risen up.

France has been plagued with injuries before and throughout the FIFA World Cup 2022 and now another concern has risen up. According to reports coming from the France squad that due to a knee injury, striker Olivier Giroud is doubtful for the match. Giroud has been an important member of France’s squad, but manager Didier Deschamps may be forced to play without his preferred forward.

What is the condition of the France squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 final?

According to sources, France attempted half of their training session with Giroud and the second half with Marcus Thuram, as it is unclear whether the 36-year-old will be available to face Argentina.

Deschamps was expecting a fully fit squad, barring Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez, after a quintet returned to training on Saturday after a combination of illness and injury-plagued the French camp.

However, absentees such as Raphael Varane, Ibrahima Konate, Kingsley Coman, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Theo Hernandez have all returned after missing training on Friday, providing a significant boost to the French team.

Who will replace Giroud at the front?

Giroud was replaced by Thuram in the 2-0 semi-final victory over Morocco, a decision praised by Deschamps because it allowed Kylian Mbappe to move to a central position and both he and Thuram to press from the front, allowing for more defensive stability.

Deschamps could have used Thuram off the bench again, but he may now be forced to start him in place of Giroud, who has already scored four goals in Qatar and is having a good chance to beat both Mbappe and Lionel Messi to the Golden Boot.
