How do ranks work in LoL?

The league of legends ranking system includes 9 tiers, each tier splits into 4 divisions, with 4 being the lowest and 1 being the highest in that tier. So, Players progress in each division by earning league points (LP) from the games that they win. If the players win against a team with a higher matchmaking rating then they get more LP points. However, players will lose LP if they fail to win or perform badly.

What is Matchmaking Rank (MMR)?

MMR is a number riot given to each player based on their in-game skill level. Moreover, MMR determines how many league points a player gains or loses in each game. So, The higher a player’s matchmaking rank, the more LP they stand to win after winning a game. Moreover, players will lose less LP after a defeat in a game if they have a high MMR.
