Having played the game for so long, he doesn’t shy away from giving harsh remarks about several cricketers. However, his advice comes out to be helpful most of the time. This time, what is bringing Sunil Gavaskar to the headlines is his comment on Rajasthan Royals’ Shimron Hetmyer‘s wife. He attracted heavy flak on social media after his distasteful and unprofessional remark. In RR vs CSK, Sunil Gavaskar from the commentary box was heard saying- “Shimron Hetmyer’s wife has delivered, will he deliver now for the Royals”. For the unversed, Hetmyer has flown back home to welcome the birth of his first child alongside his wife.
However, this is not the first time that Sunny is being criticized for passing a remark on a cricketer’s wife. Earlier, he passed a statement on Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma. It didn’t go well with the actress and she took to her social media handle to criticize this disrespectful remark passed on her. But it is to be noted that what Gavaskar meant was completely misunderstood. He being a gentleman accepted how it has taken a different turn and apologized for it. This time as well, Sunny didn’t mean it to be disrespecting or hurtful to anyone. However, the joke didn’t go well with many cricket fans. Moreover, some same to his support knowing his intentions weren’t to be disrespectful.
