The Australian test vice-captain, Steven Smith, scored 78 runs in the first innings of the first test match against Pakistan. With those 78 runs, Smith took his average in test cricket over 60. Moreover, with that half-century, Steve Smith became the first man to break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of most fifties after 150 test innings. Sachin Tendulkar scored a total of 60 half-tons in his first 150 test innings. However, Smith surpassed the Master Blaster with two more innings to go as he scored his 61st test fifty in his 148th test innings.

Steve Smith breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s world record
Undoubtedly, Steve Smith is one of the best test batsmen of this generation. He has 27 test hundreds to his name and averages just over 60 in the format. Smith made his test debut in 2010 as a leg-spin bowler but soon he switched his role in the Australian team. Australia’s tour of India in 2017 was a corroboration of his versatility as he scored three centuries on the sluggish Indian pitches. His roaring comeback in the Ashes 2019, yet again, stamped his authority in test cricket.
In the first innings of the historic test match against Pakistan, Smith played a fluent inning of 78 runs before he got out in one of the ugliest fashions. He went hard for a sweep shot just to end up feathering an edge for Rizwan to grab. This series is historic because it marks Australia’s first tour to Pakistan in 24 years. The first test, however, could not excite a single fan around the world because of the benign pitch prepared by the curators. Day 5 of the test begins today but the second innings of the match is yet to get over. Alas, the historic test match is quickly moving ahead for a draw.
