In reply to New Zealand, Pakistan also made an urgent start. Both Fakhar Zaman and Imam-Ul-Haq made a partnership of 65 for the first wicket. After that, a 135-run stand between Fakhar and Babar Azam, who scored 65, formed the backbone of the chase. Babar lost his wicket at a score of 201 in the 30th over to legspinner Ish Sodhi. After Babar, Pakistan lost Shafique’s wicket early. He only added 7 runs and was caught out by Henry Shipley.Â
But Fakhar Zaman and Rizwan kept the score going. With Mohammad Rizwan, he made a crucial unbeaten 119-run stand in just 86 balls and led their team to win. Rizwan played a magnificent inning of 54 off 41. This was Mohammad Rizwan’s 42nd fifty-plus as a wicket-keeper in all formats; now the most by a Pakistani wicket-keeper. The previous record was registered to Sarfaraz Ahmad (41 in 223 innings).
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and invited the Kiwis to bat first. New Zealand made a more urgent start and lost their first wicket of Will Young early on 33. Chad Bowes (51) made a crucial 86-run partnership with Mitchell before being out LBW by Haris Rauf. Mitchell again played a fabulous inning of 129 off 119. He smashed 8 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Latham also played a magnificent inning but missed his century by 2 runs. Both Mitchell and Latham made a partnership of 183 for the third wicket.
Haris Rauf picked up four wickets. Nadeem Shah took one wicket of Daryl Mitchell. He spent only 49 runs in his 10 overs. This was New Zealand’s highest ODI total in Pakistan. Now, Pakistan is leading the five-match series by 2-0.
