Mount Maunganui: After the first T20 against India and New Zealand had got washed out due to ran, the second match was played on Sunday. Coming out of the T20 World Cup semi-final fiasco, India defeated the home team by a massive 65-run margin. Owning their victory to Surya Kumar Yadav’s ton, Hardik Pandya-led Men in Blue recorded its biggest-ever victory over New Zealand on their soil.

Bay Oval: Batting first India had several fall breaks. However, the No. 1 T20I batter, Surya Kumar Yadav not only anchored the sinking Indian ship but also took it past the par score mark. SKY’s unbeaten 111 came off just 51 balls that too in such a crucial time. While the other batters were struggling Mr. 360 smashed his ton with a strike rate of 217.64. While no other batter stood steady on the kiwi pitch, Surya took India to 191 runs in 20 overs.
Chasing the enormous target, kiwi captain Kane Williamson scored the most runs for his team. While the team got demolished on 126 that too with an over and a ball left, Williamson’s effortful 61 off 52 went in vain. Surprisingly, for India the part-time bowler Deepak Hooda picked the most wickets. Apart from Hooda’s 4 for 10 in 2.5 overs, Mohammad Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal’s spells were impactful too, dismissing two each.
With this India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series against New Zealand. Given a match loss at Wellington, the teams will play the concluding game on Tuesday at McLean Park.
