Just In: BCCI Fires Chetan Sharma Led Selection Committee, Application Window Now Open for New Candidates

Seems like India’s third consecutive trophy-less World Cup campaign has nudged BCCI to right all possible wrongs. In its quest to take all measures required to end the 9-year ICC trophy drought, BCCI, has taken a severe step. In the latest development, the board of cricket has fired the senior men’s selection committee. The committee led by Chetan Sharma consists of three other members, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh, and Debasis Mohanty. However, the current committee stands diluted as per the latest ruling.

The board has consequently opened the application window for new applicants for the vacated posts. BCCI Sacks Senior Men’s Selection Committee Headed by Chetan Sharma

BCCI’s selection committee led by Chetan Sharma has faced severe criticism lately. Not only the audience, but former cricketers and the critics of the game have questioned their decision to include a certain set of players while ignoring other deserving candidates. However, seems like the chosen team’s failure at delivering the desired result proved to be the final nail in the coffin for BCCI. And thus, the committee of four out of which 3 have served only half of their decided tenure is now sacked. And the selection for the upcoming Bangladesh tour would be their last assignment with the board.

Despite the inklings, the latest decision of BCCI comes as a shocker. No official statement was issued regarding the change. Moreover, if the reports are to be believed, BCCI didn’t even warn the said committee about the sacking beforehand. Informing of the development, BCCI announced the opening of the application’s window for the post of selectors. Moreover, the statement specified the required grounds essential for being eligible for the position. The newly elected National Selection Committee will take charge starting in December.
