Narayan Jagadeesan Shatters String Of Records, Scoring 277 Runs against Arunachal Pradesh in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Jagadeesan has become the first-ever to score centuries in 5 consecutive innings in the 50-over format. Previously, Kumar Sangakkara in 2014-15, Alviro Peterson in 2015-16, and Devdutt Padikkal in 2020-21 scored 4-consecutive centuries in this format.

Narayan Jagadeesan has shattered many List A records with his latest knock scoring 277 runs. Currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Tamil Nadu opener scored a double-century. The 26-year-old has already scored 4 centuries in the ongoing season of the tournament. And now with his latest heroics, Jagadeesan has become the first-ever batter to make 5 consecutive centuries in the tournament. Moreover, with his double-centurion stand, Jagadeesan is now the highest-scorer in Men’s List A cricket. Previously, Alistair Brown held the record scoring 268 against Glamorgan in 2002.

Narayan Jagadeesan, playing against Arunachal Pradesh reached the double-century stand within just 114 deliveries. This is the joint fastest knock in men’s List A cricket. Moreover, the Tamil Nadu opening pair of Sai Sudarshan and Jagadeesan also breached the highest-ever opening partnership record. The duo scored 400 runs with Sudarshan reaching the score of par 150 himself. The team ultimately reached the gigantic score of 506/2 in the 50-over format.

With this record, Jagadeesan has left the likes of Virat Kohli and Prithvi Shaw behind. Previously, Prithvi Shaw, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Devdutt Padikkal held the record of scoring centuries in 4 centuries in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before the knock against Arunachal Pradesh, Jagadeesan scored 128(123) vs Haryana, 114* (vs Andhra Pradesh), 107 (vs Chhattisgarh), and168 vs Goa. Not only this, Jagadeesan has become the first-ever to score centuries in 5 consecutive innings in the 50-over format. Previously, Kumar Sangakkara in 2014-15, Alviro Peterson in 2015-16, and Devdutt Padikkal in 2020-21 scored 4-consecutive centuries in this format.

Narayan Jagadeesan slammed 15 sixes to reach the ultimate score of 277, the most by any player in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Moreover, his strike rate for the knock, 191.45 is now the highest for a double-centurion score by any batter in List A cricket. Consequently, Narayan Jagadeesan has reached 799 runs in a single edition of the tournament, falling just behind Prithvi Shaw who scored 827 in the 2020-21 season. Shaw still holds the record for the highest-individual score in a single season of the Vijay Hazare tournament.
