On Tuesday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Team India will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2024. Pakistan has been allotted the venue for the next continental tournament edition according to the ICC’s Future Tours Programme.
However, the Indian cricket board after their 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM), decided not to send the national team to the neighboring country. Given the political tension between the two cricketing nations, this was declared.
Moreover, Jay Shah mentioned the demand for a neutral venue.
“Neutral venue for the Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan,” Shah, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said.
“I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue,” he added.
Can the Asia Cup venue be reselected?
Yes, considering the issues the venue could be re-elected. As we saw, the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup was also rescheduled with a changed venue. Taking the previous host, Sri Lanka’s economic and political crisis into consideration.
