PCB Calls For an Emergency Meeting with ACC, Mere Hours After Warning to Quit the 2024 ODI World Cup

As the cricketing world gears up for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, PCB has come up with hue and cry about the Asia Cup 2024. Recently, reports arose about the Indian side going to Pakistan for the next season of the Asia Cup. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah quickly cleared the air, ultimately declaring that India won’t travel to Pakistan anytime soon. The decision came keeping in mind the security of the Indian players following the tense situation between the neighboring countries.

The decision by the BCCI, however, didn’t sit right with the Pakistan Cricket Board. The PCB, in turn, has brewed the issue up multi folds taking it in the wrong stride. Ramiz Raza, former Pakistani cricketer and now PCB chief first issued his disappointment over BCCI’s announcement. Then, warned the fraternity to quit the upcoming ODI World Cup, slated to commence in India in 2024. And now in their third move within a single day, the board has called for an emergency meeting with the ACC.

PCB Calls for an emergency meeting with ACC

PCB in their statement has noted that such decisions would negatively affect the cricketing community worldwide. “The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2024 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle,” the statement read.

And asking for an emergency meeting over the issue, the PCB stated, “The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. As such, the PCB has now requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting of its Board as soon as practically possible to discuss this important and sensitive matter.” Incidentally, Jay Shah happens to be the ACC chief too along with the BCCI secretary.

This is not the first time that an international tournament including Pakistan and India has faced such difficulties. The Asia Cup 2018 also happened to change the venue from India to the neutral venue of UAE to suit Pakistan’s participation in the tournament. If the latest updates are to be followed, the ICC is set to intervene between the boards to set matters straight ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup 2024.
