Matthew Mott leading the race for England white-ball coach: Reports

Matthew Mott has played First-class cricket till 2004, scoring 3723 runs in 66 games.

England Cricket is undergoing revolutionary changes. ECB has appointed Rob Key as the men’s managing director. Following this, a new Test coach for the men’s team was appointed. Since Joe Root has given up the Test captaincy, Ben Stokes will be replacing him. Moreover, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum was unanimously voted for the post. Now, there are speculations that Australian cricketer Matthew Mott is likely to be named as the limited-overs coach of England. However, former England cricketer Paul Collingwood is also in the race for the white-ball coach duties. The all-rounder has represented England in all three formats. Moreover, he has led England to their maiden ICC Trophy after winning T20 WC in 2010. The final announcement will be made this week itself.

Matthew Mott is a first-class cricketer from Australia. He played 66 matches scoring 3723 runs at an average of 33.84, smashing 7 hundred. Although Mott could never play for the Australian national team, he has had an illustrious coaching career. He was appointed as the head coach of the New South Wales Blues in 2007 after serving as the assistant coach for over 2 years. The same year the team won the Pura Cup. Later, he coached Glamorgan County Club.

In 2015, Mott was named as the head coach of the Australian Women’s cricket team. The team has been unstoppable since then. This year, Australia Women’s remained unbeaten in the T20 WC 2022, lifting its 5th title. Many give credit to Mott for the team’s success. It will be interesting to see Mott coach the England Men’s in ODIs and T20Is.
