LSG vs DC: Rishabh Pant fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate

In the clash last night, LSG defeated Delhi Capitals effortlessly. Quinton de Kock's impressive knock led to the easy win. However, the loss was not the only disheartening thing for the Delhi Capitals. Skipper Rishabh Pant was fined for slow over-rate.

On Thursday, Lucknow Super Giants defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets. The match was played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Lucknow catapulted on the points table by reaching the second position. However, Delhi registered their second consecutive loss. However, Delhi won their opening match of the tournament against MI. Apart from losing, the Delhi Capitals also maintained a slow over-rate. So, captain Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 12 lakh for the same.

Although the team couldn’t make it to a win, opener Prithvi Shaw played a brilliant knock, scoring 61 off 34. Still the target was not a competitive one. Moreover, Australian batter David Warner played his first match. However, he couldn’t add much to the team’s total. Lucknow wicket keeper-batter Quinton de Kock played an impressive inning, scoring the majority of runs for the team. QDK smashed 80 off 52 deliveries.

Statement: Rishabh Pant fined Rs 12 lakh

After the match, a statement was released on IPL’s official website. It stated that DC skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate. However, the fine could’ve been more. Since this was the team’s first slow over-rate offense, Rishabh got away with the minimum fine. The statement read-

The Delhi Capitals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7.

As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs.

Anrich Nortje fails to bowl a full over

Nortje conceded 19 runs in his first over. He returned to bowl the 14th over. In the same over, he bowled a beamer at 141.4 kmph. de Kock hit it in a six. However, in the sixteenth over, he again bowled a waist-high bowl to LSG power-hitter Hooda. Subsequently, Nortje was taken out of the attack. Kuldeep Yadav completed the remaining over.

As per ICC rules when a bowler bowls more than 1 no-ball, above the waist height of the batter. Which is considered to be dangerous, the bowler shall be taken off.

ICC Law 41.7.4-

“Should there be any further dangerous such delivery by the same bowler in that innings, the umpire shall call and signal No ball, when the ball is dead, direct the captain of the fielding side to suspend the bowler immediately from bowling, inform the other umpire for the reason for this action.”
