There are basically two stories behind Rahul being named. Both his parents have a different version of why he named him Rahul. Before he opened about it, fans believed that he was named after Rahul Dravid who also happens to be from Bangalore.
Talking about his mother’s side of the story, KL says, “her story was that she was a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and his characters in the 90s were Rahul, right? So, I used to go with that story. I told one of my friends. who watches probably a lot of Bollywood movies, and he said, ‘Bro, Shah Rukh’s first character as Rahul was in 1994. You were born in 1992. So, it doesn’t make sense’ “.
There’s another version of the story from Rahul’s father’s perspective. His father has been a big cricket fan. Moreover, he followed Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Vishwanath. Once while he was following a match’s commentary on the radio, Rahul’s father heard the commentator talking about Sunny’s son. Gavaskar has named his son Rohan, being his fan KL’s father decided to name him the same. However, he mixed up the 2 names and he was named Rahul.
