Just In: Jasprit Bumrah all set to captain India in England Test, Rohit Sharma ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19

Bumrah picked 15 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2022. MI finished last on the points table this season.

Cricket like life can be unpredictable at times. Indian fans were eagerly waiting for the 5th rescheduled Test match against England. However, with KL Rahul’s injury and Rohit Sharma testing positive with Covid, the team is now searching for its best opening pair. Another trouble was the team’s leadership. However, reports state that Jasprit Bumrah is all set to captain team India in the Edgbaston Test. Bumrah is the only pacer to captain the Indian team in the Tests after Kapil Dev. It has been 35 years since a fast bowler has led the Indian team in red-ball cricket. This is a golden opportunity for Jasprit to take up the charge of the team when the series is at a crucial stage.

Earlier, Bumrah has been the deputy for Mumbai Indians as well as the Indian Cricket Team. However, captaining India in the longest form of the game is going to be a great achievement. According to the reports, the team management has conveyed their plans to Jasprit Bumrah and he will be seen donning the blue blazer as the India captain at the toss on July 1st.

Earlier this year, Bumrah talked about his plans with the Team India captaincy

“Ready to do it if given an opportunity, but that’s something I don’t chase. In any leadership group, I always look at the situation in the same manner, not to take any extra pressure that now I have to be overcautious. Taking responsibility, talking to a lot of players, trying to help them out in the best possible manner has always been my approach and it will be my approach going further.”
