With India scoring 416 runs in Ist Inning of the fifth test of the English tour, this inning saw a plethora of records being broken. Earlier Rishabh Pant broke a handful of them and then followed Ravindra Jadeja. But this wasn’t the end, the Indian stand-in skipper was yet to play his knock. In the 84th over, Stuart Broad was brought back into action. Jasprit Bumrah started raining boundaries from the first ball itself and didn’t stop till the last ball. Broad bowled the most expensive over in Test cricket history getting hammered for 35 runs. This record was earlier held by West Indian Legend Brian Lara. Lara hit Proteas spinner Robin Peterson for 28 runs in 2003.

Bumrah hit the first ball for a boundary over fine leg. The second delivery was a bouncer which went over wicketkeeper Sam Billings for five wides. Seven runs came off the third ball as Bumrah top-edged a pull-over third man for six and off a no-ball as Broad overstepped. Three consecutive fours followed as Bumrah crashed a full toss through mid-on. Then inside-edged a four to fine leg before smashing one to the square leg boundary and tumbling over. Bumrah pulled the next delivery for a six-over-deep backward square leg. And thus making it the most expensive over in the history of Test cricket. There was finally some relief for Broad off the last ball as Bumrah dug out a yorker and hared for a single.
Definitely Broad must have felt nostalgic, as a similar situation arose when Yuvraj Singh hit the pacer for six sixes in the 2007 T20 world cup game.
