ICC unveils men’s FTP for 2024-27, Team India to play 38 Tests in the period

The new FTP also rejected the idea that the expansion of T20 leagues around the world will result in a tightening of the international cricket.

The Men’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), which was presented by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday (August 17). The Programme confirmed that 12 Full Members Nations will play more international cricket in each of the three formats from 2024 to 2027.

“The 12 Members will play a total of 777 international matches – 173 Tests, 281 ODIs and 323 T20Is – in the 2024-2027 FTP cycle compared to the 694 in the current one,”

“This includes the next two cycles of the ICC Men’s World Test Championship, multiple ICC events and a host of bilateral as well as tri-series action,”

IT ADDED.

The new FTP also rejected the idea that the expansion of T20 leagues around the world will result in a tightening of the international cricket schedule. During the 2024–2027 cycle, the Indian cricket team will play in a five-match Test series against England and Australia. From August 18, 2022, to February 20, 2027, India will play a total of 38 Tests, 42 ODIs, and 61 T20 Internationals.

India-Australia to play 5 match Test series after 30 years

Australia, England, and India will play five-match Test series in the third and fourth World Test Championships. Additionally, there are 19 two-match series and five three-match series in each of the two WTC cycles. These will run from 2024 to 2025 and 2025 to 2027. There are two distinct five-match Test series between Australia and India in each of the following WTC cycles. This is one of the major FTP’s primary highlights.

For the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will visit Australia in the 2024-25 WTC cycle. While a reciprocal tour is slated to be held in the 2025-27 edition. It will be the first time in over 30 years that the two will clash in a five-match Test series. This happened the last time in 1992.

Five significant ICC tournaments are also included in the future cycle of the FTP, beginning with the Cricket World Cup in India in 2019. The T20 World Cup will be held in 2024 in the West Indies and the United States, and it will be followed by the Champions Trophy’s return in 2025, which Pakistan will host. The T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in 2026, while the Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027 will wrap up the FTP cycle.
