Umran Malik has been shining ever since he started playing in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League. Day after day he has made and even broken his own records in terms of the pace of the deliveries. He once again showed an immensely brilliant performance with the ball in SRH’s recent match against Mumbai Indians. The match took place on Tuesday, 17th of May. Malik bowled some match winning spells last night and picked up a total of 3 wickets. Although, it was a treat to watch Umran take such crucial wickets but that wasn’t the only thing the viewers were mesmerized with.
The main centre of attention became the young bowler’s post celebration which was kindred to the celebration of the Steyn Gun, Dale Steyn. However, Umran Malik in a conversation with one of his teammates from SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, after the match, admitted that he has been incited by Steyn’s post wicket-taking celebration.
Here’s what he stated, “Dale sir stands as the umpire in the nets when I am bowling. When I take a wicket, he does this (imitates his celebration). One day I also did that and it has become a habit since”. Malik has always seen Dale Steyn as his idol and also shed some light on the experience of training with him. “I have learnt a lot from him (Dale Steyn). If we are bowling for three hours in the net, he’ll keep standing with us throughout the three hours.”
With Umran Malik’s speedy bowling attack and SRH batsmen’s efforts, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by mere 3 runs. With scalping 3 wickets against Mumbai Indians, Malik has now total of 23 wickets in the 16 matches he played in the Indian Premier League.
