Just when KKR started crawling their way back, Vijay Shankar exploded scoring 63 runs off 24 balls. Shankar’s onslaught has taken GT past 200. He smashed 45 runs in the last two overs bowled by Ferguson and Shardul, making it 72 runs off the last 5 overs. Rana probably erred by not giving Varun his full quota and trusting Shardul over Umesh for the final over. Gujrat Titans end with 204/4.
Kolkata Knight Riders have a competitive target to chase and would need their misfiring top-order to score some runs today. Their target when they come out to bat would be 205. It’s a good pitch to bat on but this will still take some chasing.

Sai Sudharsan departs after a well-made 50!
Sudharsan reached his 3rd IPL fifty. Slowed down in the end but still a solid innings by him. He is now dismissed for 53 runs off 38 balls, falling while trying to score off Narine. This brings Killer Miller to crease with 2 overs left. GT are 159/4.
GT vs KKR: Platform set for big 5!
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s partnership has set the platform for GT to launch some lusty blows in the last 5 overs. They have the set Sai Sudharsan at crease with Vijay Shankar at the other end. They are 132/3 in 15 overs. How many can they get with Miller and Tewatia still to come?
Manohar departs after a quick cameo!

Narine breaks the partnership again as Gill’s high intent innings comes to and end. He came down the track and did not get to the pitch of this offbreak, lofts and picks out Umesh at long-on. Titans off to a good start and both Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill are looking good. Not much help for the spinners either. Gill is toying here with the KKR spinners driving them for boundaries. He is using his feet and the depth of the crease really well. Fresh from his knock against Delhi, Sai Sudharsan also takes on the spinners playing some delightful lofted strokes
Meanwhile Shubman Gill completes 2000 IPL runs and he is second-youngest (23y, 214d) to do so, only behind Rishab Pant.

Gujrat Titans are off to a decent start. They have lost the wicket of Saha as he tried sweep Narine but only managed skying it. Narayan Jagadeesan completed a good running catch to dismiss the GT opener. Chakravarthy failed to follow-up Narine’s successful over as he drained 16 runs in the final over of the powerplay. The Kolkata Knight Riders had a poor start to their IPL 2024 campaign, losing to the Punjab Kings. However, Nitish Rana and company showed tremendous grit in their next game, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs. Lord Thakur led a spirited fightback after they were cornered at 89/5. They will attempt to maintain their winning streak against the defending champions by playing in the same manner.
