Consistently Poor Top-order rules SRH out of IPL 2024!

Sunrisers Hyderabad are enduring one of the worst campaigns in the Indian Premier League as they sit in the ninth position in the standings. They have managed to win just four of 12 matches. They still have two matches to play in this edition. On Monday, SRH suffered a 34-run loss to Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi stadium which ended their playoff hopes. A target of 189 runs was posted by Gujarat which Hyderabad failed to chase as they could only score 154/9. This win helped Gujarat Titans become the first team to qualify for the playoffs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Journey through the season!

If we talk about the journey of SRH then it was not as good as we expected. SRH season started with two consecutive losses against RR and LSG respectively. Their batters seemed completely fragile and even the team didn’t cross 140. But, in the next two matches, SRH came back with wins. They showed their batting strength and won the next matches against Punjab and Kolkata by 8 wickets and 23 runs respectively. After that SRH batting order again seemed insipid and collapsed. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their three matches in a row against Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.

These three losses forced Hyderabad below in the points table. After that, their win and loss continued. In the next five matches, they only won two matches against Delhi and Rajasthan. In the points table, SRH is now in ninth position with 4 wins out of twelve matches. Hyderabad has become the second team after Delhi who has been knocked out of the IPL this season.

SRH’s Top Order Muddle

This season SRH’s top order seemed to completely fail. The opener and spinner Abhishek Sharma has scored only 215 runs in 10 matches with a half-century. Moreover, Mayank Agarwal has also scored 187 runs in nine games with an average of 20.77. Heinrich Klaasen is the only batter who is playing well for Hyderabad. So far he has played 10 matches and scored 326 runs with 45.57 as an average.

After Klaasen Rahul Tripathi is the second-highest scorer of the Hyderabad side. He has so far played 12 matches and scored 258 runs with an average of 23.75 and a strike rate of 128.3. Skipper Aiden Markram is third after Rahul who has played 11 matches and scored 217 runs with 21 as an average. Henry Brook smashed an unbeaten 100 against KKR and helped his team to win by 23 runs. But, after that, he scored only 69 runs in eight matches.

If we talk about the bowlers then Bhuvneshwar and Markande are the only two who are doing best for SRH. So far Bhuvi has played 12 matches and scalped 14 wickets with an economy of 8.61. His best bowling figure was 5/30 against GT at Ahmedabad. Mayank Markande and M Jansen have scalped 12 and 10 wickets in 10 and 8 matches respectively. Mayank has one of the finest economies of 7.8 among these bowlers. Meanwhile, the younger bowlers like Abhishek and Umran seemed completely faded. Umran has taken only 5 wickets in 7 matches while Abhishek Sharma has two wickets in 10 matches with 10.66 as an economy.

In conclusion, we can say that the worst performance of the top order and some bowlers like Abhishek Sharma and Umran Malik forced their team to be knocked out of the playoffs.
