The chairman of PCB is demanding his side’s World Cup games out of host country India. This news came when their arch-rivals India refused to travel to Pakistan for September’s Asia Cup. Pakistan is hosting the six-team Asia Cup. This tournament will be a 50-over tournament. In which India will normally participate. First time Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup since 2008.
But the BCCI has refused to travel to Pakistan. The reasons are several years citing diplomatic tensions and the country’s challenging security situation. The BCCI wants its Asia Cup games out of Pakistan. It is demanding potentially in the United Arab Emirates. After this PCB chairman Najam Sethi has demanded a reciprocal arrangement for the World Cup.
Who said What?
Sethi told The Indian Express last week-“If India now wants to have a neutral venue and accepts the hybrid model, then we’ll use the same hybrid model in the World Cup.” Further, he said Pakistan would be willing to play their World Cup games in Bangladesh or any other venue acceptable to India. He is calling it “a model that goes forward and resolves this political logjam” between the two countries.

Also, he added “There is a very strong possibility Pakistan could opt out of the World Cup in India. We also have security concerns for our team in India. So let Pakistan play its matches in Dhaka or Mirpur, UAE or Sri Lanka. This is the solution going forward until India doesn’t agree to play against Pakistan, in Pakistan and outside Pakistan, bilaterally.”
“Every major country has toured Pakistan in the last few years. You name them, they’ve all been there. They all appreciated the security arrangements. That’s not a problem anymore,” Sethi further said.
Pakistan did not host international men’s cricket for more than a decade after the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore. But many countries like Australia, England, Zimbabwe, South Africa and England have toured Pakistan after the 2009 attack.
