Bangladesh Take 370-run Lead On Day 2 Against Afghanistan

Bangladesh are in a very comfortable position as they now lead by 367 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan both were unbeaten on 54 off 64 balls at the stumps. Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who made a half-century in the first innings, fell for 17. Shanto and Zakir added unbeaten 116 runs for the second-wicket stand. Both reached their fifties with boundaries off successive balls. Masood dropped Shanto off his own bowling when he was on nine.

Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh were bowled out for 382 runs within 45 minutes of the start of play. They lost their 5 wickets in just 4.5 overs and added only 9 runs to their overnight total of 373/5. Mehidy and Mushfiqur Rahim fell within six balls of each other. Both added 83 runs for the sixth wicket before departing. Yamin Ahmadzai removed Mehidy Hasan at the gully. 

While Mushfiqur got trapped on a short ball by Masood in the third slip. Both got out in the forties. Masood removed Taijul before completing his five-wicket haul by removing Shoriful’s off-stump. Nijat Masood took 5-79 in Bangladesh’s first innings. In response, the Afghanistan batters piled up early. Bangladesh bowled out the visitors for 146 in just 39 overs. At the score of 18, Afghanistan lost their first wicket in the form of Ibrahim Zadran. Zafran added 6 runs for his team before being removed by Shoriful Islam. But, Nasir Zamal and Afsar Zazai played crucial innings of 35 and 36 runs respectively. Both made a 65-run stand for the fifth wicket before Mehidy broke the partnership. With the wicket of Karim Janat, who stumped for 23, Mehidy completed his 150th wicket in Tests. Ebadot used the extra bounce on the pitch and picked up four wickets. Ebadot Hossain’s 4-47 was his best figure at home.
