Shushila Devi managed to win a silver medal in judo
Shushila Devi Likmabam of India lost in the women’s 48kg final at the Birmingham 2022 on Monday. She still managed to win a silver medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games for the second time.

Shushila Devi concluded with a total of four medals for India
The Manipur-born Indian judoka concluded Glasgow 2014 with a total of four medals for her country.
Number 105 in the world Shushila Likmabam was defeated in the championship match by fellow South African and Tokyo Olympian Geronay Whitebooi, who is ranked 32 (where the judoka wins by collecting two half points). The game at the Coventry Stadium and Arena lasted four minutes and 25 seconds.

Shushila Devi said, “I am not happy at all with the silver. I came here to win gold but my preparations were affected by shoulder and knee injuries. But it happens. That’s part of judo.”
Shushila Likmabam defeated Tokyo Olympian Harriet Boniface of Malawi (world No. 148) in the quarterfinals and African champion Priscilla Mornad of Mauritius (world No. 30) in the semifinals earlier in the day. The Indian judoka, 27, won both sets with ippon (where moves executed award one full point for the win)
Vijay Kumar won bronze medal
Later, Vijay Kumar Yadav defeated Cypriot Petros Christodoulides for the bronze medal in the men’s 60 kg division. The Indian defeated Dylan Munro of Scotland to advance to the bronze medal match.
He is ranked 155 in the world
Vijay Kumar Yadav, who is ranked 155, lost to Joshua Katz, an Australian Olympian who is number 36 in the world, in the quarterfinals earlier in the day. The Indian defeated Winsley Gangaya of Mauritius in the round of 16.

Jasleen Singh lost to Nathan Katz
Jasleen Singh Saini lost to Nathan Katz of Australia, a two-time Olympian, in the men’s -66kg bronze medal match. Earlier, in the semifinals, Jasleen Singh Saini was defeated by Scottish player Finlay Allan. Prior to it, the Indian defeated Vanuatuan Maxence Cugola in the round of 16 and Englishman Nathon Burns in the quarterfinals.
Suchika Tariyal also lost to Nathan Katz
In her bronze-medal match, Suchika Tariyal also ultimately failed to a two-time Olympian. The 31-year-old Indian lost to Christianne Legentil of Mauritius in the women’s 57kg division.
By winning her match against Donne Breytenbach of South Africa, Suchika Tariyal advanced to the bronze medal round and earned it. Prior to that, she defeated Zambia’s Rita Kabinda in the round of 16 before falling to former world champion Christa Deguchi of Canada in the quarterfinals.
Two more Indian judokas will compete on Wednesday
Two more Indian judokas will compete: Deepak Deswal (men’s -100kg) and Tulika Maan (women’s +78kg) at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Wednesday.
