Former football player Didier Deschamps is a French-Basque manager and has been France’s national team’s manager since 2012. He is renowned for his leadership skills because as a captain and as a manager, he has led his team to glory.
Deschamps captained France to the 1998 FIFA World Cup victory and the Euro win in 2000. He was a defensive midfielder during his playing days.
Deschamps represented several clubs that include Juventus, Chelsea, Marseille, Valencia, Nantes, and Bordeaux. He played in three UEFA European Championships and one FIFA World Cup.
Another victory to add to his list is his being the manager of the FIFA World Cup 2018 French team.
He was also the captain of Marseille which won their single UEFA Champions League title in 1993, becoming the youngest skipper to achieve the feat. Deschamps started his football career at an amateur club, Aviron Bayonnais during his school years. Nantes spotted him and signed him later in 1983. In 1989, he transferred to Marseille and then spent one season on loan with Bordeaux in 1990 but returned to Marseille later. He won back-to-back French league titles with this team (in 1991 and 1992).
Deschamps then inked a deal with Juventus and won three Serie A, one Coppa Italia, two Italian Supercups, his second Champions League title, UEFA Super Cup, and an Intercontinental Cup. After Juventus, he played for Chelsea. His last team before retiring was Valencia. He retired at the age of 32 in 2001.
He began his managing career with Monaco and led it to the Coupe de la Ligue in 2003. Before handing France’s team’s managing role, he helped Juventus to win Serie B and managed Marseille as well.
Following his given managing role in France, Deschamps led the national team to the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the final of UEFA Euro 2016, and win in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
