Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca is on his way to London to sign a deal at West Ham United worth upto £35.5 million. His medicals are scheduled this week, as reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
David Moyes and West Ham have been trying to find a suitable striker replacement since the departure of Sebastian Haller to Ajax in the 2020 winter transfer window. Scamacca is set to become West Ham’s fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of defender Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for £30 million, goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain for £7.75 million after a successful loan spell last season, and midfielder Flynn Downes from Swansea City for an undisclosed fee.

Gianluca Scamacca’s Career So Far
The 23-year-old striker is a youth product of Italian outfit AS Roma, who went on to sign for Dutch team PSV Eindhoven in the winter transfer window of 2015, joining their youth side Jong PSV. He made his debut for the Boeren aged 17 coming on as a substitute for Steven Bergwijn.

Italian club Sassuolo quickly took notice of Scamacca’s performances for PSV’s youth side and signed him on a four-year deal in the winter trandfer window of 2017. The Italian initially struggled for game time in the senior team of I Neroverdi, being loaned out multiple times. However, Scamacca’s integration into the first team was aided by the arrival of new manager Alessio Dionisi in 2021. He went on to score 16 goals in 36 league games for Sassuolo in the 2021/22 Serie A season, helping them finish 11th.
