IPL 2022 is reaching its business end. All the league matches have been completed and today after 58 days of fierce competition, there is no match being played. However, the most interesting part of the tournament, Playoffs are still remaining. Playoffs consist of 2 Qualifiers, an Eliminator, and the Final. Moreover, these matches will be played in Kolkata and Ahmedabad rather than Mumbai and Pune. Gujarat Titans have been looking in great touch in their debut season. GT will be taking on Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1. However, what fans wonder is what will happen with the Playoff and Final results in case there is rain. Looking at the thunderstorms in Kolkata, rain is predicted on May 24th. This increases the chance of the matches getting delayed or washed out. Let us look at what provisions has the BCCI come up with in such cases.
While the RR squad was flying to Kolkata they were stuck in severe turbulence because of the bad weather. Moreover, Eden Gardens’ Pressbox is also damaged because of the thunderstorm. However, May 25th is predicted to have considerably better weather. So, even if rain interrupts GT vs RR match, we can expect an action-packed clash between Lucknow and Bangalore on 25th.
How will Playoff and Final results be decided if there is rain during match day?
BCCI has a reserve day for the Final match in case rain stops the play. Moreover, if rain interrupts the game in the Qualifiers and the Eliminator, a Super Over will be used to decide the result. However, if a Super Over isn’t possible as well, the Points Table standings will be referred for the Qualification.
